Operations management involves the responsibility of ensuring that business operations are efficient in terms of using as few resources as needed and effective in terms of meeting customer requirements.  Metrics in operations management can be broadly classified into efficiency metrics and effectiveness metrics.  We can assist with identifying key performance indicators so that management can track the performance of their operations.

DMS has over 20 years of expertise managing business operations including contract management, purchasing & inventory management, receiving & distribution, human resources, information systems, financial planning & analysis, and marketing & public relations. Some successful growth strategies implemented in collegiate retailing include:

  • Increased net sales by 60% over 5 years, allocated resources to expand marketing staff and implement new marketing plan.

  • Implemented security protocols including digital network surveillance, perimeter access, inventory tagging, and security officers.

  • Implemented point-of-sale (POS) and inventory management systems, including RMSA merchandise planning (open-to-buy).

  • Leased space to Starbuck’s Corporation and Magic Johnson’s, Johnson Development Corporation.  Opened the 1st Starbuck’s in a minority community in Washington, DC.

  • Design & Project Management - Store renovation ($4 million) including relocation and grand opening.

  • Reorganization - Consolidated five stores and development of job descriptions for 27 positions.

  • Community Events - Author signings (75-100 annually) including best-selling authors, celebrities, politicians, and VIP’s.
